Rocky Ford Discount Tires first opened its doors in 1972 with a simple promise — give every customer honest work at a fair price. More than 50 years later, that promise hasn’t changed. We’re still locally owned, still community rooted, and still the shop Arkansas Valley drivers turn to when their vehicle needs attention. We incorporated as Rocky Ford Discount Tire in 1988, and moved to our current location at 1601 Elm Ave in 1998 — expanding our service bays and inventory to better serve the community we call home.
From the Air Force to Rocky Ford — A Family Business Built on Service
Dave Watters came home to Rocky Ford in 1971 after four years serving in the Air Force, taking over management of Otero Tire Co. and putting down roots in the community he loved. When Kris joined him — and the business — after they married in 1980, Rocky Ford Discount Tire Co. became a true family operation.
They incorporated in 1988, and by 1995 had the opportunity to purchase property on the east end of Rocky Ford — a location that had housed everything from a truck stop to a produce distribution center to a hair salon. After an extensive remodel, they moved to their current home at 1601 Elm Ave in 1998, bringing with them a larger building, a more visible location between the highways, and room to grow.
More than 25 years later, Kris and Dave are still here — still locally owned, still personally invested, and still deeply involved in the community and charitable organizations that make Rocky Ford and the Arkansas Valley a place worth calling home.
