How long has Rocky Ford Discount Tires been in business?

Rocky Ford Discount Tires first opened in 1972 and has been serving the Arkansas Valley for over 50 years. We incorporated as Rocky Ford Discount Tire in 1988 and moved to our current location at 1601 Elm Ave in 1998. We are locally owned and operated by Kris and Dave Watters.

Are you locally owned or a franchise?

We are 100% locally owned and operated — not a franchise, not a chain, and not a corporate-owned location. Kris and Dave Watters own and run the business. When you bring your vehicle in you are dealing with your neighbors, not a regional manager following a corporate script.

Are your technicians certified?

Yes. Our technicians hold ASE, NAPA, TIA, and ASA certifications. Our lead technician Dennis Dunford is an ASE Master Automobile Technician, ASE Undercar Specialist, and ASE School Bus Technician with over 30 years of experience. Brent is our certified alignment technician. Bill Gray holds ASE Service Consultant certification. We are also the only AAA Approved Auto Repair facility in southeastern Colorado.

We are open Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. We are closed Saturday and Sunday.

Do I need an appointment?

No appointment is needed for most services — walk-ins are always welcome. Calling ahead at (719) 254-3391 helps us give you a more accurate wait time estimate, especially for alignment and more involved repairs.

Do you offer a shuttle service?

Yes. We offer a free local shuttle service in the Rocky Ford area. If you need to drop your vehicle off and get somewhere while we work on it, just let us know when you arrive.

How far do you serve?

We regularly serve customers within a 100-mile radius of Rocky Ford including La Junta, Swink, Fowler, Las Animas, Ordway, and Trinidad. If you are coming from a distance, call ahead so we can make sure we can get you in and out efficiently.

We carry a wide selection of trusted tire brands for all vehicle types. Call us at (719) 254-3391 to check availability on specific brands and sizes — our inventory changes regularly and we can order specific tires if needed.

Do you have tires in stock or do I have to order them?

We maintain the largest tire inventory in southeast Colorado covering passenger cars, light trucks, medium commercial trucks, agricultural equipment, lawn and garden, ATV, and golf cart tires. Most common sizes are available same day.

Can you put tires on my truck or farm equipment?

Yes. We service light trucks, medium commercial trucks, implements, large tractor tires, and farm equipment. Agricultural and heavy duty tires are a specialty — most jobs are completed in under an hour.

Do you mount and balance tires?

Yes. Every tire purchase includes professional mounting and precision balancing by our certified technicians. We use precision equipment to ensure your tires are perfectly balanced for a smooth, safe ride.

How do I know when I need new tires?

Check your tread depth — if the tread is worn to 2/32 of an inch or less, replace them immediately. A quick test is to insert a penny into the tread with Lincoln’s head pointing down — if you can see the top of his head, your tires need replacing. Also look for cracking on the sidewalls, bulges, or uneven wear patterns. If you are unsure, bring it in and we will check them for free.

What are the best tires for driving in Colorado weather?

For year-round driving in southeast Colorado, a quality all-season tire handles most conditions well. If you regularly drive mountain roads or experience severe winter weather, a dedicated winter tire significantly outperforms all-seasons on snow and ice. We recommend tires based on how and where you drive — call us and we can help you find the right fit for your situation.

We offer a full range of mechanical services including tune ups, brake repair, wheel alignments, suspension and steering repair, shocks and struts, cooling system service and radiator repair, computer diagnostics, electrical system diagnosis and repair, engine performance checks, and air conditioning service.

What should I do if my car makes a strange noise?

Do not ignore it. Unusual noises are almost always your vehicle signaling that something needs attention. Grinding when braking means brake wear. Clicking when turning often means a CV joint. Squealing belts, knocking engines, and clunking suspension all have specific causes that get worse and more expensive the longer they go unaddressed. Bring it in and we will tell you exactly what it is.

My check engine light is on — is it serious?

It depends on the cause. A steady check engine light means get it checked soon. A flashing or blinking check engine light means get it checked immediately — a flashing light typically indicates an active misfire that can damage your catalytic converter. Do not ignore either one. We perform computer diagnostic scans to identify exactly what triggered the light.

Do you offer a warranty on repairs?

Yes. We offer a 24-month / 24,000-mile warranty on qualifying repairs through our NAPA AutoCare Center certification. Ask our service consultant Bill Gray for specifics on your particular repair when you bring your vehicle in.
